"Stories from the Caribbean"

From a Series of Short Stories

By: Capt. "Tato"  Reyes

INTRODUCTION

We (the Reyes) are “islanders”, yes, my family is from an island, the Island of Grand Canary in the Coast of Africa. The Canary Islands are part of Spain and they are closer to Africa than to Iberic Peninsula.

Four generations ago my great grand father came to another island, now in the New World. It was the island of Puerto Rico. The smaller of the Greater Antilles or the larger of the Smaller Antilles, however you want to callit. The beauty of it is that it is in the middle of one of the largest migration patterns of billfish in the world. Thank you, grandpa!!! Blue Marlins, White Marlins and Sailfish are caught all year round. As a matter of fact both Ivette and I  have caught a Blue Marlin off P.R. during every month of the year.

Many of these stories I will be sharing with you take place in the  North Coast of the island.

Now that we are located geographically let’s go into my story telling.

For years my kids and family have been asking me to write down those stories that are always part of every family get-together. They enjoy them as they are part of many of them and don’t mind listening to the same story over and over.

Even when I have been fishing since I can remember, it was not until the late 70’ early 80’s that I started keeping a log of my fishing trips. Not too long ago I found them and started reading them. As I re-lived every moment like it was yesterday and I started telling the stories once again. I felt the urge to write them down.

I will do my best to share with you some of the best  “Stories from the Caribbean”.

I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them for you.

And like I would say… “To fish or not to fish… what a stupid question!

God Bless you all
