The blank is the beginning of the custom rod
building process. Therefore, it only makes sense that a good
custom rod begin here. Consumer
market rods are good, but they are not GREAT. The spine of the rod
may be incorrectly located thus resulting in a torque twist when
under the load of that great catch of the day. A custom built rod
has a carefully located spine that assures reliability when
reliability is most needed. Furthermore, the custom built rod uses
a blank of superior quality. Manufacturers such as GLoomis,
Lamiglass, St. Croix, Graphite USA, Seeker, Calstar, and
Ugly Stick produce high quality, state of the art blanks for
custom builders.
Once the spine has been carefully located,
 the
guides must be well bonded to the blank. A GREAT rod will have
perfectly aligned guides that are of the highest quality - like
Fuji. A Coach's Custom Rod will sport Fuji SIC guides
 that
are bonded to the blank with Flexcoat or U40 epoxy finishes which
